Support for Windows Phone 7 or 8

Scott Aug 01, 2012 05:30PM CEST

Do you have any plans to develop an app for Windows Phone 7 or 8?

Hi Scott,

I'm sorry, but we don't have any plans to support Windows Phone at the moment because the market share is simply too low. If Windows Phone gains more users, we might start develop a BoxCryptor app for it.

Best regards,

With Nokia and Samsung fully committed to the Windows 8 phone and new models being released this fall, and with Microsoft fully committed to a seamless SkyDrive cloud experience accessible on all devices, if BoxCryptor only works on the desktop and not on the phone, it will be a total dealbreaker and useless. I think your software is brilliant, so please consider being available for the Windows phone 8, which is certain to gain considerable market share, especially with business people like myself who've used Outlook and the MS Office suite for many years and are tired of Apple software and devices fighting with Microsoft software and devices. Thanks!

Hi Martin,

we're constantly watching Windows Phone and if it really picks up and if we think the development effort pays off, we'll change our decision. But until then, an investment into Windows Phone is simply too risky for us.

Completely agree it is clear now that windows 8 phone is going to be big. One of the great things about bc is the wide range of supported platforms, but if it's not on windows phone 8 it will be a deal breaker as the op said.

Totally agree with Martin's comments above about the seamless SkyDrive experience, I would hate to have to abandon BC because it won't wotk on my new phone.

Why not make it a paid app - I would certainly be more than happy with that.

Hi Jeremy,

We'll do our best to support as many platforms and providers as possible and I can assure you that you will see a better SkyDrive support on other platforms. Regarding Windows Phone 8 it's pretty difficult because Microsoft did not even publish the SDK so we cannot even "play around" with it. But it's definitely a space we're watching.

Hi everybody,

Do you have any updated ideas regarding that issue?

The SKD's come out and I'd absolutely agree with what Martin wrote in September. You have a phantastic product but without Windows Phone support there's no meaning in using it for a lot of people.

As already mentioned by others, think of the business world as well: Office, Sharepoint... And as you already support Windows 8 a mobile version can't be such a big investment... And in case I'm mistakten: Why not make it a paid app.

Thank you and best wishes,

Just got a Nokia Lumia 920, was disappointed to see BoxCryptor not out on the Windows Phone Store. Make it a paid app if you must, but please consider bringing it to Windows Phone 8.

I was really happy to see this thread. I just migrated from iOS to a Windows Phone 8 device (Lumia 920) and am looking all over for something that will secure the SkyDrive. I understand the lack of a market to support the investment, but I hope you guys are keeping a close eye on the developments and can take advantage of the opportunity. Whichever cloud encryption provider cracks the WP8 nut first is going to own the mindshare and get the surge of user adoption. Agreed on the paid app approach. I'd gladly pay $2.99 to $9.99 or so get this solved.

I'd like to help vote this up also.

I'm very close to buying a Nokia 920 or Samsung Ative S, at the moment that makes my BoxCrypt unusable.

Please bring this product to Windows Phone 8...

Also does it work on WinRT ?

We are looking at buying a Surface tablet, being ARM will it work ?

Hello Andrew,
a first version of Boxcryptor is available for WinRT/Surface through the Appstore. Currently it's skydrive only and very basic.

Great Product. Wish there'd be a port from Win8/ WinRT to WP8. I work/live in Germany and regret to not being able to use Skydrive/DB for anything that contains data within the scope of the Datenschutzgesetz (Bund). I'm sure there is a market for a paid Version for WP8 - there is just no cometition!

Hello ban,
we're closely watching the development of the windows phone market. We'll reconsider it after finishing our next Windows RT version.

I will use that Software if it's available for all Win8 devices.

Like many, many people I use Windows PC's in my work. Also I've been a devoted windows phone fan for almost 2 years and have just bought a Microsoft Surface tablet. Therefore, like the others I'd really like to see BoxCryptor on Windows Phone so that I can access my files on SkyDrive from all my devices.

While TxtCrypt is nowhere near as sophisticated as BoxCryptor it does run on Windows Phone, Win RT, Windows desktop plus others including Android and Apple. Until BoxCryptor becomes available on Windows Phone I think TxtCrypt will provide a stopgap measure for me and perhaps for some of you other Windows Phone users.

The only missing piece for me to use BoxCryptor is its platform support on Windows Phone 7 & 8. I recommend many people to use BoxCryptor, and i'd even like to pay for it if it charges.

I use BoxCryptor with SkyDrive to encrypt all my online files from my laptop, my iPad and my old Android phone. It works absolutely perfectly. Count my enthusiastic vote towards developing a Windows 8 phone version. I would download it right now if it were available and would even pay for it. The reason I bought the Windows 8 phone is I am consolidating 3 ecosystems - Windows/SkyDrive, Android/Google Drive, Apple/iCloud - to one: Windows 8/SkyDrive. It works really well for me.

I would love to see a Windows Phone 8 version of BoxCryptor... especially, if it could integrate smootly within the OS, so that all Apps can get access to encrypted files... don't know if this is possible.

Hope you guys will support Windows Phone 8... it's a greate OS! :)

See you

Just writing another request for BC for WP so the creators of the APP has incentive to make one as there is demand.

Very impressed with BoxCryptor and SkyDrive;
Only missing piece of the jigsaw is the Win 8 phone app. So another request for you to develop the WP8 app please!
Then it all comes together, BoxCryptor business licence and all...

Liebes Boxrcyptor Team,
ich verwende Windows Phone 8 und würde es mir wirklich wünschen, wenn euer Produkt auch bald dieses Betriebssystem unterstützen würde, auch wenn es die Software für diese Plattform nur zum Kauf und nicht kostenlos gäbe.

... I would appreciate support for Windows Phone (7 and 8). WP is a mature platform and the number of users evolves.

Your product is based on the idea, to share content over multiple devices AND platforms. This implies to support iOS, Android, WinPhones and Blackberries! Get unique and don't loose your chance to be an early adopter ...

Hallo BC-Team,
die einzig noch fehlende wichtige App auf Windows Phone 8 die den Umstieg perfekt macht. WP8 hat großes Potenzial. Wann kommt die App?
